Churchyard Working Party – Saturdays from 10am to midday

We held our first working party of the year in April, which also included a group inside the Church carrying out a deep clean. We are grateful to all who came along to help out, and to Jayne for organising the churchyard work so carefully. We will be meeting monthly from now until October, so do come along and join in. No gardening expertise is needed, just a willingness to help keep our churchyard looking good.

Future dates: 9 August; 13 September and 11 October. We welcome any new attenders !

Pilgrimage to the Cathedral – 9 August, timing TBC

For 950 years, our Cathedral has stood as a spiritual and architectural treasure, drawing pilgrims from near and far. At the heart lies the Shrine of Saint Richard of Chichester, the Cathedral’s beloved bishop from 1245 to 1253. Canonised in 1262, Saint Richard’s Shrine became a focal point for pilgrimage, offering solace, healing, and inspiration. As part of the 950th Celebrations, we are going to make our own pilgrimage. For those who are able, we will walk into Chichester, but we hope that others may join us by getting the bus (a pilgrimage itself). Our current plan is to arrive at the Cathedral in time for some lunch, before a short service led by Rev Barbara Stanton, followed by a tour of the Cathedral. We will announce more details, including the all important timings, in church and on our website/Facebook pages.

Tangmere Village Fete – 6 September time TBC by the Village Organising Committee

We are hoping to run a drinks stall at the event – hopefully both Pimms and a non-alcoholic alternative. If anyone is free and willing to help for an hour or so on the day, please do let Emma or Helen know.

    Ride and Stride – 13 September 9am to 5pm

As in previous years, we will take part in Ride and Stride. We will make sponsor forms available during July, and we can share cycle and walking routes for those who are new to this annual event. Our Church will be open during the day, and we hope to be able to have our usual rota to welcome people. We are very aware that fewer people now visit us, but we think it is important to be as welcoming as we can be. We are also mindful that we might want to seek support from the Sussex Historic Churches Trust when we start to plan improvements to the exterior and interior of the Church.

Battle of Britain Service - September 21st

We will be holding our annual Battle of Britain Service where we remember all who fought in that conflict. Please let friends and neighbours know so that we can commemorate Tangmere’s role in the Battle of Britain.

    And finally

This month’s Eco tip, taken from the A Rocha UK website:

Plastic Free July. A great opportunity to review where you might be able to reduce single-use plastics in your life. Being part of Plastic Free July will help you find great alternatives that can become new habits forever. Paying attention to what we consume and its effect on God’s earth, can lead us not into guilt, but into action and prayerful determination to see change where it’s possible. Read more about the effects of plastic at arocha.org.uk/plastic-summer.
