This month’s Eco message:
Support pollinators. Nothing says Spring like the buzz of a bee! But these precious pollinators are declining due to habitat loss, climate change and agricultural intensification. Wednesday 20 May is World Bee Day, so look around to see how you can improve habitats for bees and other pollinators. Read more about bees, butterflies and habitats that support them in our Target 25 resources at arocha.org.uk/what-we-do/target-25.
Sow a pollinator friendly seed mix, make or buy a bee hotel, let some wild flowers grow in your garden, and don’t use pesticides. Pray that our pollinator populations will increase. For more about World Bee Day visit: awarenessdays.com/awareness-days-calendar/world-bee-day/

Wildlife area
Management of the churchyard
Whist our Churchyard is lovingly kept pristine by our wonderful volunteers through our regular Churchyard Working Parties, we also dedicate a special area of the grounds as a natural habitat.
This space is carefully maintained to encourage local wildlife and to support a richer diversity of plants, insects, bugs, and—of course—bees. By allowing this area to flourish naturally, we help create a thriving ecosystem right at the heart of our churchyard.

Wildlife Boxes
Various bird boxes have been installed around the churchyard, including blue tit and robin boxes, and a set of swift boxes now proudly fixed to the church itself. Along the boundary of the churchyard—nestled in the hedgerow just up from the Kissing Gate—you’ll also find our fabulous bug hotel, pictured here.
A huge thank‑you goes to Tangmere Scout Group, who have been wonderful partners in helping us create new habitats for local wildlife. Last year, the Cubs built a log pile to support stag beetles, and this year the Squirrels enthusiastically created our bug hotel.
Both visits were full of energy, curiosity, and great fun. We always love welcoming children’s groups and seeing the excitement they bring to caring for nature.
Learn more about our St Andrews Draw
A simple and enjoyable way to support the ongoing maintenance of our beautiful churchyard and the care of St Andrew’s Church itself. Every entry helps us preserve the grounds, protect our wildlife areas, and maintain this peaceful space for everyone in the community to enjoy.
We would also like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all those who already take part in the Draw. Your continued support plays a vital role in the upkeep of both the church and its grounds, and we are truly grateful for your generosity and commitment.
Help support the upkeep of our church and churchyard while being in with a chance to win.
